Santa Teresa

The Nicoya Peninsula of Costa Rica hosts some of the most special beaches and beach communities in the country

Situated on the country’s Central Pacific, the Nicoya Peninsula is host to some of the most pristine forests and remarkable beaches that Costa Rica has to offer. Separated from the main part of the country by the Gulf of Nicoya, the area is easily accessible by a ferry that departs from the port of Puntarenas, regional flights into Tambor, or via the Puente de la Amistad, a bridge to the north of the Peninsula.

The area’s scenic beauty is dramatic; romantic beaches and colorful coastal villages, surf towns, high and low elevations, farms, and tropical forest patches all characterize this destination.

Many unpaved roads are part of the adventure when traveling to the Peninsula’s most beautiful beach towns. Popular destinations are Playa Tambor, Montezuma, Cabo Blanco Reserve, Santa Teresa, Mal Pais, Coyote Beach, and Punta Islita. For those looking for something extra special, Nicoya Peninsula has it all; all-inclusive resorts in the Tambor area are perfect for families, the Montezuma area is popular with the party crowd and Santa Teresa and Mal Pais offer up incredible surf (among many other eco-adventure activities) as well as an eclectic, International vibe with its many travelers from around the world who came, fell in love with the area, got “lost in Santa” and stayed.
