San Gerardo de Dota

Tucked in between the mountains that make up part of the Continental Divide, and surrounded by mystical cloud forests, Savegre offers a pristine ecological paradise. The abundant biodiversity of this tropical forest setting creates paradise perfect for hikers, with its dozens of nature trails and wealth of flora and fauna.

Lucky hikers and bird watchers may even catch a glimpse of the beautiful Quetzal, undoubtedly one of the most striking birds in the world and native to the rich Central American jungles. Resplendent in its jewel toned colors, the exquisite long tail feathers were once used as currency in ancient Mayan cultures; in fact, “quetzal” was a term for “feathers” in the Mayan language, and is the current term for Guatemalan currency.

Due to its high altitude at more than 2000 meters above sea level, Savegre benefits from a temperate and cool climate; this, combined with the mystical beauty and abundant nature of the cloud forest, makes it a perfect destination for natural lovers and hikers.
